Are you looking for a unique handmade gift that celebrates NZ's biodiversity? This adorable little felt Kotare brooch will make a great gift for bird lovers of all ages. Carefully handcrafted each one by a local textile artist Hayley Meehan.

The intricate felt pieces are carefully hand cut from soft 100% wool felt sheets and hand stitched with love using high quality cotton/satin DMC threads. Birds are filled with new soft synthetic toy filling, finished with a backing pin.

Our native kotare is a close relative of the kingfisher found over much of the Pacific. Their striking azure plumage and their ability to perch in a prominent place for long periods of time waiting for their prey make them easily recognisable.
