Detailed Pōhutukawa leaf necklace, skillfully cast in silver from a handmade original, finished with a sterling silver chain and clasp.

The native Pōhutukawa tree of New Zealand is one of the top icons of our country. It has won our hearts with its bright red blooms which burst into flowers during the week leading up to Christmas. For this reason it has been crowned as the national Christmas tree of Aotearoa. They grow mainly in warmer coastal areas often precariously clinging to cliff tops and their distinctive leaves are found with holes in them caused by a native beetle. It would be a lucky find a Pōhutukawa leaf without these holes and Tania has carved them beautifully into her silver earrings.
