The silver beech, or Tawhai is found in both Islands and is often the dominant tree in South Island Beech forest. The leaves have a distinctive toothed margin, the outline of which reflects the shape of a whole tree, reminding us of nature's fractal patterning on different scales.  

To make these earrings leaves are put through a rolling mill and each leaf is then hand cut. The leaves are then filed, sanded, polished and the red oxide coating is applied. Classic leaf shaped sterling hooks complete the look.
